Shaw Chuang Will Drive Enterprise Value and Foster Cloud Computing Innovation with Deep Expertise in Virtualization, Infrastructure and SaaS

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Virtustream, Inc., a leading cloud solutions provider, today announced the latest addition to its executive team, appointing Shaw Chuang as executive vice president, engineering. Leveraging deep experience leading engineering and technology development at some of the industry‘s most successful companies, Chuang will build out the engineering team to support demand for Virtustream’s innovative cloud computing solutions.

Prior to Virtustream, Chuang was the chief technology officer and vice president of Emerging Technologies at PGP Corporation, a leader in the email and data encryption market that was acquired by Symantec in 2010 for $300 million. Chuang worked closely with product management to move the company into adjacent markets and position PGP for acquisition. Before that, he expanded his virtualization expertise at VMware as project director for VI3 and director of research and development, ESX. Chuang also held research positions at the University of Cambridge, Computer Laboratory, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and University College London, C.S. Department.

Throughout his twenty year career, Chuang also founded several technology companies, guiding engineering teams through periods of hyper-growth. Chuang founded Invenio Systems, a company that developed object-based storage systems for virtualized environments, and he was the founding chief product architect at Network Clarity, an infrastructure software company with a focus on boosting reliability of large, multi-vendor IT networks in Fortune 500 companies. He was also a co-founder of Gsphere, which later became Xfire and was acquired by Viacom and was a founding engineer, manager/chief architect at Ensim Corporation, where he pioneered an early cloud operating platform.

“Shaw Chuang’s expertise combines customer-focused business savvy with technical innovation, a skill set combination that is integral for Virtustream as we continue to develop cloud offerings for the enterprise,” said Kevin Reid, chief executive officer and chief technology officer, Virtustream. “Our executive team was impressed by Shaw’s entrepreneurial spirit and his ability to anticipate and develop product lines to meet market demand.”

Shaw has a doctorate in Computer Science from The University of Cambridge in the U.K. He also sits on a number of technical advisory boards at companies including Pancetera, Virsto, CiiNOW and Catbord. Shaw will operate out of Virtustream’s San Francisco office, one of three new U.S. offices the company opened during the past six months.
