Study: 87% of Small to Mid-Sized Businesses Have Inadequate or Out of Date Disaster Recovery Plans
45% of Small Businesses Don’t Enforce Security Policies
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- nCircle, the leading provider of automated security and compliance auditing solutions, today announced the results of a security survey of 145 professionals responsible for IT security in small to mid-sized businesses.
The study was conducted between November 14, 2011 and November 26, 2011 to better understand the security and compliance issues that have the greatest impact on smaller businesses.
Highlights of the study include:
- 51% of respondents have a disaster recovery plan but aren’t sure it’s up to date
- 13% of respondents do not have a disaster recovery plan
- 36% of respondents rely on back-ups for disaster recovery
- 19% of respondents don’t have a security policy and expect their employees to use good judgment
- 26% of respondents have a security policy but don’t really enforce it
“The number of small businesses that have no written security or disaster recovery plan is a significant concern,” said Elizabeth Ireland, vice president of marketing for nCircle. “It seems counter intuitive, but even though smaller businesses have fewer resources, they need to pay more attention to security rather than less. This is particularly true in today’s escalating cyber threat environment. Security needs to be more than a written document that you file and forget; it should be a crucial safeguard that’s integrated into every aspect of your business.”
