Sedo brokers most expensive domain name of the year
Gambling.com sells for $2.5 million
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sedo, the online domain specialist, today announced that it has brokered the sale of gambling.com for $2.5 million, the highest price for a web address this year. UK based Media Corp sold the domain through Sedo to an unnamed UK company.
The sale points to the health of the online gambling market in the UK and the new owner of the site will be well placed to capitalize on the benefits a memorable keyword domain like Gambling.com represents. This includes strengthening an online brand and attracting high quality, highly targeted and relevant traffic.
Gambling.com is the third biggest public sale Sedo has handled, behind sex.com ($13 million) and vodka.com ($3 million).
Liesbeth Mack-de-Boer, CSO at Sedo, comments, “The high sale price paid for Gambling.com is a real confidence booster for the global domain industry and demonstrates the value companies are still prepared to place on their digital assets. Keyword domain names such as gambling.com offer significant advantages in terms of search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, with web sites often ranking well in natural search listings and receiving better click through than paid search campaigns.”
