Website uses email, Facebook to notify friends, family, and co-workers

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Remembered.com, the online memorial website, has introduced a new funeral announcement feature. The service is free to use for anyone wishing to communicate the arrangements following someone's passing.

Remembered.com allows anyone with a computer to easily create the announcement and send to their friends, family, and co-workers via email or Facebook. Those notified can inform others, offer condolences, or make donations to the charity of the departed. Traditionally, newspaper obituaries and phone calls would be the primary means of communication, but in today's highly connected world the news of someone's passing can travel much faster.

"People have friends and family all over the world now and social networking underpins these relationships," said Ivan Vias, Lead Developer of Remembered.com. "We believe this new functionality can remove a lot of time and distance from the bereavement process."

Remembered.com was among the first to incorporate social networking into coping with the loss of a loved one, helping those left behind to surround themselves virtually with others who can exchange fond memories. A dedicated URL (e.g. http://johndoe.remembered.com) is created that is easy to share with others. An online picture share allows registered users to contribute photos, comments, and condolences with each other from every corner of the world.

"Truly a person's legacy is defined by those they shared their life with," said Andrew Jorgensen, President. "We've created an online community for them where every lifetime can be celebrated."
