OMVS: Content is King and Mobile Devices are the Kingdom
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- On The Move Systems’ (OTCBB: OMVS) decision to produce original video programming for mobile devices is validated by the predictions of two entertainment and technology luminaries.
Former Disney chief Michael Eisner and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were each ahead of their time. Both recognized the value of content before most people had even used the Internet for the first time. In 1996, Gates wrote, “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting.”
Eisner agreed, saying in a 2010 interview that “People still underestimate the value of content. If you have ownership of high-end, exclusive content, end of game. That’s where you need to be.”
Gates foresaw and Eisner experienced the commoditization of the technologies of distribution and chased the high-value-add of content.
“We are living those prophecies today,” said OMVS CEO Patrick Brown. “Internet traffic today is 10 times what it was just five years ago. In five years, there will be more traffic on the Internet in five minutes than there was all year in 1996, and practically all of that growth comes from video transport.”
By 2014, video is expected to comprise over 90 percent of all consumer Internet traffic and two-thirds of all mobile data traffic. OMVS is making plans to produce, sell and distribute that video content. The company recently formed a new division, OMVS Media, to create original series “appisodes” for in-app delivery to smartphones and tablets.
“Content is being amplified and delivery mechanisms are experiencing explosive demand,” Brown said. “Thanks to innovations like the cloud and the iPad, we’ve just started the biggest physical expansion of the content delivery system in the history of the human race. Now is the time to get into the content business, and that’s exactly what OMVS is doing.”
OMVS is dedicated to producing next-generation mobile technology and content to compete in an industry that includes Majesco Entertainment (NASDAQ: COOL), Glu Mobile Inc. (NASDAQ: GLUU), Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) and Linktone Ltd. (NASDAQ: LTON).
