InfiniBand is an open-standard high performance interconnect technology developed for use in large-scale scientific computation, but is also increasingly deployed in demanding environments such as Cloud and Enterprise data centers.
InfiniBand is noted for its cost-efficiency, high bandwidth and low latency characteristics, however it is intrinsically limited to very short connections within data centers. Obsidian's patented extended reach InfiniBand technology – as embodied in commercial-off-the-shelf Longbow devices – completely removes this distance limitation, enabling the same performance advantages seen in LAN (Local Area Network) applications leveraged across global distances.
