"Harvey Manger-Weil, who calls himself 'The College Wizard', has distinguished himself in a 30-year career of consistently coaching students to remarkable 500, 600 and even 700 point SAT score gains in less time than any other tutor in the country.  His willingness to work with students at all ability levels, including those with special needs, deserves particular recognition," says Sandy Levine of the NHEA.

Manger-Weil, an entrepreneur based in New York City,  began SAT tutoring while an undergraduate at Dartmouth College in the 1970s, and has continued doing so while simultaneously building a series of successful businesses in a variety of industries.

"Tutoring the SAT has always been a labor of love for me," states Manger-Weil.  "As a Dartmouth alumni interviewer, I saw firsthand the heartbreak of highly accomplished students being denied admission solely due to low SAT scores.  Helping students get accepted to their first choice school by teaching them how to beat the SAT has been incredibly fulfilling for me."

Manger-Weil credits his success to years spent "reverse-engineering" the SAT in order to unlock its intrinsic nature, as well as perfecting methods of quickly communicating strategies for beating the SAT to his students. "It's important for parents and students to understand that the primary purpose of the SAT is to serve as a screening device for college admissions officers," he says.  "In fact, many highly ranked colleges and universities no longer require SAT scores for admission, recognizing that the SAT does not adequately predict a student's ability to succeed in college.  The SAT is designed to be tricky, so that even the best students can't score perfectly without being educated in the way the SAT is structured.  I have found that once a student properly understands the workings of the test, scores can rise dramatically in a very short period of time."

According to Ms. Levine, the NHEA based its recognition of Mr. Manger-Weil on feedback received from hundreds of guidance counselors, parents and students throughout the country.  "The fact that Harvey tutors students in all areas of the United States remotely via Skype makes it entirely appropriate to call him 'Best SAT Tutor in America', she adds.

The National Higher Education Association, which focuses exclusively on issues related to secondary education, is the largest organization of its kind in the United States.
