New Survey Conducted by Global Knowledge and UBM TechWeb’s HDI Challenges Conventional Wisdom about ITIL®
CARY, N.C.& COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global Knowledge, the worldwide leader in IT and business training, and HDI, a global IT service and technical support membership association and the industry’s premier certification and training body, today announced the availability of the ITIL® Benefits to the Business Special Report. The report is based upon the findings from a 2010 survey of IT professionals who practice IT Infrastructure Library™ (ITIL) within their organizations.
Among the key findings in this report:
C-Level Support Is Not Always Essential for ITIL Implementation Success
Conventional wisdom suggests ITIL implementation cannot be successful without chief-officer-level commitment. Although 71% of respondents deemed executive support as “very important”, most practitioners have implemented ITIL best practices successfully without it. In fact, just 45% of respondents claim to have had any CIO, CEO, CFO, or CTO support.
ITIL Is Being Practiced at a More Advanced Level
Traditionally, non-practitioners have viewed ITIL as simply a service or help-desk practice that doesn’t deeply impact an IT department. But the survey revealed that the top three most followed ITIL processes in organizations are incident management, change management, and problem management. This indicates a strong movement amongst practitioners toward incorporating ITIL into more advanced IT processes.
Cost-Reduction Is Not the Chief Benefit Realized from Practicing ITIL
Many in the IT industry assume that cost-reduction is the chief benefit realized from implementing ITIL best practices. However, according to the survey, cost-reduction was the fourth most realized benefit. The top benefit was improving IT service responsiveness.
The Global Knowledge/HDI ITIL® Benefits to the Business Special Report is based on a survey that was conducted online from August 15 – September 10, 2010. There were 358 respondents. Download the complete ITIL benefits report.
