Boston tops U.S. cities to live and work in for YLA generation

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- mun2, the number one bilingual cable channel for Young Latino Americans (YLA), has released the first comprehensive ranking of the best cities for YLA’s to live, work and play in. The list was created using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and several large national studies.

Coming out in the #1 spot is…Boston, MA. According to the study, the city known for having the first public park, public library and subway, as well as for its avid sports fans, ranked ahead of the rest when it came to its overall young population, percentage of singles, diversity, low unemployment, and high college graduation rates among Latinos by state. Rounding out the top five were Austin, TX (#2); Denver, CO (#3); New York (#4); and Phoenix (#5). The results tell a revealing story about the cities best equipped to serve a growing, uniquely American-Latino generation that is poised to be one of the most influential in U.S. history.

mun2 identified the largest metropolitan cities with more than half a million people and looked at more than a dozen criteria to narrow down the list. These criteria included the percentage of young people, Latino college graduation rates, number of colleges and universities, affordability, housing costs, income growth over time, average salary, percentage of singles, unemployment rates, weather, safety, diversity (representative of the national average), and opportunities for minority entrepreneurs, among others. These multiple categories were assigned points, weighted and ranked. Data for our analysis came from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and several large national studies that used similar data. The results tell a revealing story about the large cities best equipped to serve a growing, uniquely American-Latino generation that is poised to be one of the most influential in U.S. history.
