400 Gigabits-Per-Second FP3 Network Processor Will Enable a Faster, Smarter, and Greener Government

HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- LGS Innovations, The Network Experts, will be the first network integrator to support 400 Gigabits-per-second (G) transmission speeds in U.S. Federal Government networks. The new FP3 processor, developed by LGS Innovations’ parent company Alcatel-Lucent, delivers a fourfold performance improvement compared to the fastest Internet Protocol (IP) networks available today. In addition, the FP3 processor reduces the environmental impact of IP networks, consuming up to 50 percent less power and taking up 30 percent less space within a government agency’s premises – contributing to the Obama Administration’s mandate to reduce the U.S. Federal Government’s greenhouse gas pollution 28 percent by 2020.

The FP3 processor opens up new possibilities for bandwidth-intensive services, applications, and content, and will support the migration of government agency networks to the Cloud. Taking advantage of the power and efficiency of the FP3 processor, the U.S. Federal Government can dramatically enhance the infrastructure needed to access rich new online services, from broadcast-quality high-definition video conferencing to applications that support a government agency’s mission, and deliver communications and public services.

Ronald Iverson, LGS Innovations Chief Executive Officer, said: “As Cloud-based services emerge and rich multimedia services proliferate, the FP3 processor will enable the highest quality of service at even higher speeds. Not only will the U.S. Federal Government remain on its trajectory of rapid data growth, it will also contribute to meeting the Obama Administration’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.”

Alcatel-Lucent is the first company to develop 400G technology for IP networks, helping to accelerate the adoption of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), which was standardized in 2010, while providing a clear path for higher speeds in the future. By making networks faster, smarter, and more environmentally sustainable, Alcatel-Lucent is enabling the continuous innovation of devices, content, and applications used by the U.S. Federal Government that increasingly depend on high-speed agency networks.

The FP3 processor will be commercially available in the LGS Innovations service router portfolio in 2012.
