Ipswich Electric Light Department Adopts GroundedPower's Interactive Energy Efficiency System
-- Ipswich Residents Now Have Tools to Track and Change Electricity Use -
NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GroundedPower, creator of the interactive customer engagement system (iCES) for consumer-driven energy management and efficiency, today announces that iCES will be used in 50 households under a pilot agreement with the Ipswich Electric Light Department in Ipswich, MA. Ipswich is the eighth Massachusetts municipal electric company to adopt iCES.
The pilot is designed to help consumers to lower energy consumption by setting goals, selecting tasks, receiving real-time feedback, sharing information with other participants and being rewarded with points for performance.
The Ipswich pilot program will bring the total number of customers in pilots using iCES to about 500. This pilot will feature GroundedPower's wireless monitor that provides real-time usage information to consumers through an Internet gateway.
“GroundedPower has a track record of enabling consumers to track—and reduce—energy consumption,” said Tim Henry, director of Ipswich Electric Light Department. “Reducing energy costs is top of mind in today’s economy, and a key goal is to help our customers better understand and manage their electricity use. We believe iCES will do that. Additionally, being able to use existing meters means that we can reap some of the benefits of new smart technologies at lower cost.”
The goal of the Ipswich project is similar to GroundedPower’s other in-progress pilots: to combine hardware and software offerings that enable consumers to see and modify their energy consumption behaviors, interact with others in their communities using social media and track results in real time.
“Ipswich is joining the ranks of towns deploying cutting-edge energy technology,” said Dave Rosi, senior vice president of marketing, sales & business development at GroundedPower. “The visibility and control that the town is providing to consumers offers tremendous value, and we look forward to tracking the results of this pilot.”
In addition to the Ipswich pilot, GroundedPower is conducting pilots in seven other Massachusetts communities, including: Braintree, Danvers, Hingham, North Attleboro, Shrewsbury, Wakefield and Wellesley. With these pilots, the Company is operating in all electric metering environments including legacy, AMR and AMI smart meters.
