Bolloré Group subsidiary specializing in ticketing and boarding control systems selects Talend’s enterprise open source ESB to improve customer service

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Talend, a global open source software leader, today announced that IER, a subsidiary of the Bolloré Group and world leader in supplying major transportation networks with ticket machines, terminals and boarding control equipment, has chosen Talend ESB to integrate its information system with customers and partners. One of the first applications affected by the new SOAP architecture, developed by IER using the Talend solution, covers incident management and facilitates the remote maintenance of its equipment.

Opening the information system to improve customer relations

IER develops solutions that optimize the management and security of the flows of people, vehicles and goods in the transportation and logistics domains. Driving 60 percent of its revenue from international markets and dedicating more than seven percent of its revenue to R&D, IER aims to gain expertise in more advanced technology to integrate said technology into its products and services in order to always best serve the needs of its customers.

In order to optimize exchanges with its customers, IER decided to open up its information system, which today consists of a central ERP based on Oracle Applications. This opening will enable the company to facilitate the integration of external information and the availability of internal information for customers in order to improve its services.

For example, for proactive maintenance service on its equipment (including interactive kiosks in the air and ground travel sectors), IER previously had to manually record each service request and match its ticket numbers with those of its customers. The implementation of the SOAP architecture enables the company to automate and accelerate this type of activity by using web services which are available to customers at a high volume of exchange.

Talend ESB: decouple applications with services in a few clicks

“To complete the opening of our information system, we had two options: deploy the tools offered by Oracle or use open source technology,” said Vincent Dobler, head of Management Applications at IER. ”In addition to the lower cost of Talend’s solutions, our analysis also highlighted their quick and easy deployment. With equivalent performance, we decided to implement Talend ESB, based on Apache technology, which benefits from the support of a large user community.”

IER received support for this project from systems integrator Cleora Consulting, a Talend partner specializing in Oracle technology. A prototype was developed to verify the feasibility of the project. This prototype was approved and the final solution is currently being implemented.

“In addition to improving exchanges with our customers regarding maintenance issues, the decompartmentalization of our information system opens up numerous prospects for us, particularly for the development of new services – real time monitoring of an order, status check via Web Services, etc. With the Talend solution, we can improve the quality of our services and increase customer loyalty,” added Dobler.

“IT departments must manage the integration and modernization of their heterogeneous environments. For IER, we were able to display the value of Talend ESB in a very short period by providing them with an approach, based on standards, for the quick creation and deployment of Web Services, enabling the company to open its infrastructure to third parties,” said Scott Devens, VP and general manager of the Application Integration division at Talend. “IER now has the foundation of a service-oriented architecture which will help increase the productivity of its employees and enable it to meet its future integration needs.”
