Former Information Security Manager at GE Money Emeric Miszti Joins Verdasys
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- At a time when data loss incidents are increasing in number and significance and almost all large organizations have appointed a chief information security officer (CISO), one former CISO says continued reliance on reactive infrastructure and anti-virus technologies will lead to more failed security approaches and the eventual demise of the CISO job function.
Emeric Miszti, recently appointed Vice President of Customer Enterprise Information Protection (EIP) Strategy at Verdasys, says most CISOs report through the IT organization, where the priorities and approaches of IT, such as attempting to secure technology infrastructure, reinforcing availability, and providing incident response, are defocusing and hampering the development of good security.
“Recent security breaches are only the beginning – the true cost of data loss incidents will be felt by all, as regulators and legislators release a barrage of new compliance standards while attackers continue to evolve their offense faster than companies can evolve and deploy their defense,” says Miszti. “The result will be continuing failure to come to grips with information protection as most companies are still wedded to traditional failing approaches – more unenforceable policies, more technological blocking of business process and more failure to deliver.”
In contrast, CISOs who take a strategic EIP approach will be able to integrate effective security controls directly into business processes and enable proactive data protection, increasing collaboration and bringing potentially huge competitive opportunities to their companies. These CISOs have to opportunity to elevate their role to a strategic position within the company.
Miszti’s 23-year career in IT and information security includes the 1996 co-founding of CloudNine Communications, a top-rated U.K. internet service provider that was forced to close in 2002 after a crippling security attack. “Cyber terrorism propelled me into the security business, where I began to understand why large organizations attempting to protect their sensitive information were not winning the fight,” Miszti says. “In my role as a senior security manager and CISO I saw how Verdasys Digital Guardian offers a deliberate path to Enterprise Information Protection and creates a strategic role for the CISO.”
Miszti was previously Director of Security & Change at Tiscali, the European telecommunications company, and also served as Security and Abuse Officer at Tiscali UK Ltd., prior to joining GE Money. He also held IT positions and consulting roles with Glaxo Wellcome, Thomas Cook, Eagle Star Insurance and Network Systems.
