Entrada Extends its Medical Documentation Platform to Apple Mobile Devices

eDictate saves physicians time and money documenting medical procedures via their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Entrada, a pioneer in health care information technology for clinical documentation and data exchange, today announced the availability of a software application for Apple mobile devices. The new eDictate application extends Entrada’s automated clinical documentation process to the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, providing physicians with a powerful productivity tool that unlocks the potential of electronic medical records (EMRs).

“More and more physicians now realize that automated documentation and other web-based EMR applications are critical to improving their productivity and satisfaction,” said Alexander Poston, president and CIO of Entrada. “As the healthcare sector evolves and smart phone software development becomes increasingly important to health IT, Entrada will continue to deliver the most advanced, most functionally rich mobile dictation services to physicians.”

eDictate captures spoken medical reports on Apple handheld devices and securely transmits them to Entrada’s web-based data center, where its voice recognition system automatically converts the recordings to text. Most reports are ready within minutes.

Expert editing services are available to further refine documents, if necessary. The electronic records are then uploaded to the doctor’s EMR or other digital repository.

Available now from the Apple iStore, the new application is the latest service from Entrada to help clinics, hospitals and surgery centers improve their clinical documentation and data management without altering a physician’s natural workflow. Entrada offers a similar application for Windows Mobile devices. You must be an Entrada client to take advantage of these applications.

Increased Productivity -- Essential to Serving More Patients

By extending its automated clinical documentation and communication system to the Apple mobility market, Entrada is helping physicians avoid the productivity losses in current EMR systems.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Association of American Medical Colleges both expect the aging U.S. population, along with the addition of 32 million people to the insurance rolls by 2014, to create more demand for health care than the current system can accommodate. Compounding the challenge is the rapid, government-funded adoption of EMRs, which have significantly reduced physician productivity, reports indicate.

“There is a perfect storm brewing in the U.S. health care system. Tens of millions of new patients are entering the system at the same time as the Baby Boomers are beginning to require more medical care,” said Dr. William Edwards, Jr., a veteran vascular surgeon and operating officer for Entrada. “Physicians recognize the benefits of modernizing their practices and the potential for IT to help deliver high quality patient care. But to meet this growing patient demand, physicians need a solution to the data-entry disadvantages of today’s EMR systems.”
