Debuts Enhanced Disaster Recovery Automation that Protects Physical, Virtual and Private Cloud Infrastructures

BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Egenera, a pioneer in converged fabrics and infrastructure automation software, today released the latest version of its flagship software product, PAN Manager® 7.1. This release includes new disaster recovery features that enable customers to protect virtual, physical and cloud infrastructure under a single process and automatically restore services should an outage occur. With PAN Manager, Egenera delivers a complete infrastructure automation platform that ensures applications have the capacity, availability and response time to meet service level requirements, enabling customers to move applications confidently into an enterprise cloud.

PAN Manager 7.1 comes at an important time in the cloud adoption cycle. According to a May 2011 Survey from CIO Magazine, more than 70 percent of enterprise companies questioned are actively pursuing cloud services. As cloud becomes a new platform for enterprise computing and the computing environment becomes more consolidated, PAN Manager plays an increasingly important role in reducing the risk and impact of infrastructure failures. With its simple “one-click” set-up, users can protect core IT services without relying on complex configuration synchronization between production and recovery sites.

PAN Manager 7.1 leverages commodity off-the-shelf blade servers along with network and IO virtualization technologies to create a pool of infrastructure that can be quickly and easily re-allocated to accommodate changes in workload. This wire-once, always-on, fabric converts infrastructure into an agile service. Additional features and benefits of PAN Manager 7.1 include:

  • Significant CapEx and OpEx savings: Whether a physical or virtual server, the easily configured many-to-one disaster recovery solutions result in significant cost savings by avoiding hardware and license duplication.
  • One click recovery: PAN Manager automatically creates a map of the environment in XML which can be invoked with a single click. This not only restores the environment exactly with server, network and storage configurations and policies but also allows the customer to prioritize applications and set boot order.
  • Rapid restoration of services: When a failover or outage takes place, recovery is guaranteed and typically occurs in less than 60 minutes.
  • Increased scalability: The release of PAN Manager 7.1 has doubled the number of blades that can be managed by the software.

“Egenera pioneered infrastructure automation software more than ten years ago, and over time PAN Manager has proven its value in reducing IT costs while protecting our customers’ computing environments,” said Scott Geng, senior vice president of engineering. “With our latest version of PAN Manager, we are enabling organizations to move confidently into the cloud by leveraging our mature and proven software to bring enhanced reliability and automation of infrastructure services to private cloud environments.”
