ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Damballa Inc., the company transforming the fight against cyber threats, announced that it has joined the Blue Coat Technology Integration Program. Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI) is a leading provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions.

Damballa® Failsafe is an award-winning network security solution that detects botnet breaches, advanced persistent threats, and other cybercrime activity that relies on network-based command-and-control (CnC) to commit fraud and steal intellectual property, corporate secrets and customer data.

Once the domain information provided by Damballa is shared with Blue Coat ProxySG appliances, IT administrators can implement policies to notify users and/or appropriate parties regarding attempted asset communication to such domains. The flexible controls of the ProxySG appliances also allow administrators to implement a block/deny policy to stop all attempted connections to such domains and provides logging for customizable reporting specific to the defined categories.

“Once an attempted communication with CnC servers has been detected, Damballa Failsafe analyzes and categorizes the infection and shares the local targeted domain information with ProxySG appliances,” said Stephen Newman, vice president of product management for Damballa. “This information is then used by the ProxySG appliances to terminate the threat by blocking future asset-to-CnC site communication.”

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances are backed by the collaborative WebPulse service that analyzes new and uncategorized Web content in real time, including call-home traffic. With ProxySG appliances, IT administrators can block access to websites that host and deliver malware, call-home traffic, phishing attacks, and scams. For corporate machines that are infected through another vector, such as email, physical media distribution or operating system/browser exploits, Damballa can identify attempts to contact an external entity for instructions and share the information with the ProxySG appliances.

“The combination of the Blue Coat ProxySG appliances and Damballa Failsafe provides organizations with a policy-based solution that allows organizations to block malicious Web-based traffic and identify potentially infected end users attempting to contact command and control servers,” said Ben Rice, director of business development for Blue Coat. “This layered approach provides a more comprehensive defense against an increasingly aggressive threat landscape.”
