IE 8: Microsoft's last browser release?

Rumor has it that Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 could be Microsoft's last IE release. That's the news that has been circulating in recent days, and the prospect has some in the FOSE community all excited. It is clear that IE has few friends in that sector, even as Firefox continues to gain momentum. Underscoring this point, Montreal consultant Gerhard Mack didn't mince his words when he told LinuxInsider. "It's a travesty that needs to be dropped off the web as soon as possible."

No matter what happens, the legacy of Microsoft's Internet Explorer will stay with us for some time. After all, many corporations and software makers have built tools around some of the quirks and proprietary features of Internet Explorer.
