Intel is partnering with Ericsson to bring HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) technology to its upcoming Moorestown platform, according to company executives. What is interesting about Intel's decision to add HSPA is the fact that Intel designed WiMAX, which is a competing 4G technology. Intel did explain that the Moorestown platform, which is expected in 2009, will support a wide range of wireless technologies, including 3G and WiMAX, among others. At this point, Intel is on track to reduce the idle power consumption of the Moorestown platform by more than 10 times compared to the first Intel Atom processor.
