When you think of the Veteran's Administration, you likely think of the massive data loss that the federal agency experienced this year. But there's also a great deal of tech innovation happening at the nation's largest integrated health-care provider. The VA has clearly committed to innovative IT programs after some hard lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina. A prime development is the agency's electronic medical records system, which links data to each and every medical facility and department. It's also in the midst of completing a huge project that will integrate outpatient and inpatient data. The Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture, as it is called, kicked off in 2001 and is slated to be finished by 2012.
